As we continue to navigate through these strange times where many theatres, venues and event spaces continue to close their doors to the public, it was refreshing to see how the English-Norwegian EDM DJ and record producer Alan Walker delighted fans at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. Walker treated his live audience to a set full of chart-topping hits such as ‘Alone’, ‘Where Are You Now’ and ‘Faded’ to name just a few. The venue was filled with smiles, cheers and singing, despite the seated, no dancing, and socially distanced setting. In the words of our client, BookMyShow, “the event went smoothly, from start to finish.”
With planning that started about a month before show day, Encore Staging Services provided a complete audio-visual spectacle of lighting, video, and rigging solutions – all whilst adhering to all safety regulations and precautions.
The lighting rig consisted of 2 x full-size GrandMA2s, 6 x Robe BMFLs, 28 x Martin Mac Auras, 14 x Thomas 4 lite Molefys, 40 x Clay Paky Sharpys and 46 x Clay Paky Stormys. All of this made for a spectacular show in the hands of Alan Walker’s Lighting Programmer.
The venue house PA system was meticulously tuned for this event by our audio team and was fed via our DiGiCo SD8 at FOH. On the stage side, monitors were controlled using a DiGiCo SD9. The monitors for Alan Walker consisted of 6 x d&b V8s and 4 x d&b V-subs and additional Shure PSM1000 wireless in-ear monitors. All of which stood on a custom-built DJ riser and matt black DJ table.
Alan Walker’s AV setup was completed with large video screens. IMAG screens were supplied by the venue and the main 16m x 7m 4.8mm LED screen was supplied by Encore, all running through an Analog Way Ascender 48. Cameras and visuals were operated by Alan Walker’s VJ.
No true EDM event could run without the magic of special effects. This was achieved with 6 x 21w RGB lasers, 8 x MagicFX CO2 jets and 6 x MagicFX Super Blaster (confetti cannons), provided by Stage FX.
All this kit was safely suspended from the rigging system consisting of 74m of 52×52 truss, 32m of 38 x 38 truss and 38 x 1ton hoists.
Overall, the Alan Walker EDM music event, which was created to be a truly immersive experience, delivered that and more.
